5 rules for taking care of freckled skin in summer

VRach-dermatologist Viktoria Britko (Honcharuk) told whether cream with SPF saves from the appearance of freckles and why it is better to forget about bleaching agents until autumn.

Freckles are pigment spots from a light yellow to brown shade that appear randomly on the body. Their origin is due to the production of melanin. But unlike moles and birthmarks, there is no increase in melanocytes (the cells responsible for the production of melanin) in them. Most often, freckles appear in red-haired girls. This relationship is explained by the MC1R recurrent gene. He does not appear in all cases, but in tandem with his own kind. Freckles are not a cosmetic defect. And although today they are in fashion (they are even specially painted), many girls prefer to get rid of the “kiss of the sun”. Summer is not the best time for whitening treatments. I recommend postponing them until autumn.

Rule # 1: use funds with SPF even in cloudy weather

This applies to all girls who are prone to freckles and pigmentation. They need protection from the first rays of the “cold” March sun. Even in cloudy weather, about 40% of the UV radiation reaches the ground. This is a “shock” dose for the owners of light skin phototype – you can easily get burned. For girls who are not prone to burns, I also recommend not to ignore creams with UV protection – this is a good prevention of photoaging.

Most day creams contain an SPF filter – this should be indicated on the package. If so, there is no need to change the foundation and use a powder with protection. SPF funds are not cumulative! And if you applied a day cream with a factor of 15, and then powder with a factor of 20, the protection will be 20, not 35. We talked about the favorite sunscreens of the editors of BeautyHack here

Rule # 2: choose a product with the highest SPF

Cosmetologists have a concept – “freckled phototype”. On such skin, under the influence of ultraviolet radiation, melanin is actively formed, which is distributed pointwise. No cream can stop this process 100%. But with proper care, you can reduce their number.

Use creams with maximum SPF protection – they provide more reliable and long-term protection from harmful UV radiation (I talked about how to calculate erythema time here)

Rule number 3: do not use products with whitening ingredients in the composition

It is better to forget about bleaching agents until autumn appears. As a rule, they include sensitizers – substances that increase the sensitivity of the skin to ultraviolet light (retinol, acids, vitamin C and others).

Rule # 4: renew your foundation every 2 hours and your sunscreen after bathing

In tonal foundations, manufacturers most often use SPF from 10 to 20. Do not apply them in active sun unnecessarily. On the beach, foundation is generally not recommended. In everyday life, always renew your foundation after a day at the office – completely remove and reapply.

There are no waterproof cosmetics with SPF factor! If the package has a mark from the series “resistant to mechanical stress and moisture” (mechanical stress means sand particles), be aware that these are the tricks of marketers who sin with their stupid imagination. Here the logic is simple: if the cream is not removed with water, then what? There are no sunscreen lotion removers on sale.

Rule # 5: Pay Attention to Hydration

Under the influence of sunlight, moisture actively evaporates in the surface of the skin. To avoid dehydration, look for moisturizing ingredients in SPF products: hyaluronic acid, glycerin, vitamin E.

Don’t forget the 3-step purification system with mandatory toning to restore the pH. Look for lactic acid in the composition – with regular use, it will help lighten freckles a little.
